Rajasthan: BJP to raise Covid warriors’ demands | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The arrival of BJP Rajya Sabha member Kirodi Lal Meena at the protest site of Covid health assistants (CHAs) at Shahid Smarak in the city came as a shot in the arms of the men and women demonstrating there on Thursday.
Upon reaching the site, Meena said, “The government is unwilling to give them (CHAs) permission for dharna. It should not happen in a democracy. If permission is denied for even a peaceful protest, the situation is like an emergency. Their demands will now be raised in the Assembly, for which I will talk to the BJP leaders.” He also spoke to the senior police officials about granting permission for the CHAs’ dharna.
About 25,000 CHAs were hired by the health department on contract basis across the state for management of Covid-19 during its peak in 2021. Ever since the government ended their services on March 31, they have been demanding regularisation of their services so that they can earn a livelihood. The CHAs have been staging demonstrations against their removal from service from at Shahid Smarak since April 1.
